Have you ever worked with a personal fitness trainer? Hiring a personal trainer can be a worthwhile investment in your health, whether you do so for a short period of time, or as an ongoing commitment to fitness. Consider the following benefits to working with a fitness coach, to decide if it’s right for you.
9 reasons to hire a personal trainer:
1- Accountability
When you work with a personal trainer, you schedule your session ahead of time so it’s on the calendar. You know they’ve planned your session in advance and they’ll be waiting for you. Knowing you’ve invested financially tends to be a big motivating factor to not skipping out on your workout.
2- Ensure good form.
Using proper form while exercising is one of the best ways to prevent injury. Even if you know the proper form to use, you may get sloppy when you get tired; let a personal trainer help!
3- Get comfortable in the gym.
If you’re new to the gym, it can be an intimidating place. All those confident looking folks using all those machines/weights/balls/etc for things you hadn’t even thought of! When you work with a trainer, he or she will be right by your side showing you exactly what to do. We’re pretty great for moral support, too!
4- Liven up your routine.
Feeling stuck in an exercise rut? Do you always do the same few routines when you workout? Working with a personal trainer is a great way to freshen up your boring workouts.
5- Workouts tailored to you.
You can find great workouts online or on DVDs; however, none of those workouts are based on your particular body, your experience, physical challenges or injuries, your goals, or even your workout preferences. As such, one-size-fits-all workouts will simply never have the same benefits as a workout customized for you.
6- Help you set reasonable goals.
If you set unreasonable goals like losing 50 pounds before the high school reunion next month, you’re going to get discouraged. A personal trainer can help you set reasonable goals, and develop a specific plan to work towards them.
7- Less wasted time.
Ok. You put on your workout clothes and you made it to the gym: that’s great! But now what? On your own, you may wander from machine to machine trying to figure out what to do next, but with a trainer, you’ll get a good workout without wasting your valuable time.
8- A listening ear.
Need to vent about your day? That’s ok; we can listen while we count reps. While most of us aren’t licensed counselors, we are here for your overall health and that includes your mental well-being. We want you to feel heard while we coach you through your workout, and we know that exercise is a key aspect to your mental health.

9- Work harder.
It’s human nature: when we know we’re being watched, we tend to work harder. Your trainer will encourage you through the toughest parts of the workout to challenge your abilities and limitations in a safe manner.
When looking for a fitness coach, ask for recommendations. If possible, chat with a potential trainer to see if your personalities mesh. Look for trainers certified by a recognized organization like NASM or ACE; while a certification doesn’t indicate a trainer’s experience, it does ensure they have a solid knowledge base are staying up to date with continuing education in order to retain their certification.
